The Ministry of Education and Palestine Islamic Bank Sign Agreement to Establish a School in the Gaza Strip

The Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Amjad Barham and the General Manager of Palestine Islamic Bank, Dr. Imad Al-Sadi, signed a cooperation agreement to establish a school in the Gaza Strip.

The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Education’s headquarters in Ramallah, in the presence of representatives from both sides.

This agreement is part of ongoing efforts to promote the education sector in the Gaza Strip, in light of the extensive damage it has suffered over the past two years, and as an initiative to support recovery and enable students’ return to in-person education.

The school will accommodate approximately 1,100 students across multiple shifts and will be equipped with all necessary supplies and educational tools to provide a safe learning environment. It will be built using materials available in the Gaza Strip under the full supervision of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, while the bank will finance the project.

Minister Barham said the agreement reflects a spirit of community and national responsibility and a strong commitment to supporting education in the Gaza Strip and strengthening relief and recovery efforts. He pointed to the importance of expanding and institutionalizing such initiatives and high-quality partnerships in view of current priorities and the significant needs on the ground.

Barham stressed the Ministry’s approach of providing all conditions that ensure the return of in-person education, alongside continuing remote school teaching, learning points, and other educational initiatives. He also noted the success achieved by the Ministry in administering the General Secondary Examinations and other exceptional efforts it has led together with its partners to support and save education.

The Minister expressed his gratitude to PIB for financing this project in Gaza, hoping that this school will be the first step toward building many more schools that will guarantee Gaza’s children and students the right to quality education in an equitable manner.

For his part, Dr. Al-Sadi affirmed that PIB is always keen to make effective contributions in serving our people through its sustainable social responsibility program, and that the education sector is a top priority within this program, as it is a vital and essential sector for recovery, advancement, and sustainable development. He also pointed to the ongoing directives of PIB's Board of Directors to implement such initiatives and community partnerships.

Al-Sadi explained that this agreement is part of a series of interventions carried out by the bank to assist and support our people in the Gaza Strip, whether in the field of relief or in supporting other sectors, emphasizing that it will be followed by additional interventions and meaningful contributions in the coming period.

Al-Sadi commended the efforts undertaken by the Ministry to advance education in the Gaza Strip and across all governorates of the nation, and their importance in improving the education landscape and building an educated generation capable of shaping the future.
