Palestine Islamic bank and Polytechnic University of Palestine launch the fourth round of Islami Award for Scientific Research

Palestine Islamic Bank and the Polytechnic University of Palestine launched the fourth round of the "Palestine Islami award for scientific research", an award aimed at supporting the pioneering role both institutions play in the field of scientific research. The agreement was signed at the bank's headquarters in Ramallah in the presence of the PIB’s General Manager, Mr. Bayan Qasem and the president of the Polytechnic University of Palestine, Prof. Dr. Imad Al-Khatib, in the presence of representatives of the deanship of the University and a number of directors of departments in the bank, where they announced launching the fourth round after applying important amendments that contribute to achieving the award objectives.

Mr.Bayan Qasem noted that this year, the award has evolved to include 6 categories, 3 of which are open for participants from all Palestinian universities, considering that this will make the award carry a bigger positive impact and longer sustainability, pointing that the total value of the previous prizes amounted to $20,000, the award is granted to serious and distinctive scientific researchers as an appreciation for their efforts and contribution in presenting a unique scientific or technical addition through a scientific research or more that gets published in scientific journals with a distinguished reputation and high classification, as well as to motivate other researchers for achievements that serve the community.

Mr.Qasem pointed that for previous rounds, over 45 researches have been submitted to the competition by researchers who belong to 7 major Palestinian universities, which reflects the importance of the award, its expansion and credibility for the audience, affirming that this big turnout was one of the main reasons that stimulated the bank to dedicate more attention and development to the award by increasing its value and amend its categories.

Qasem also considered scientific research as one of the basic pillars that countries depend on to rise up with their societies and promote their peoples for its role in stimulating the motivation for creativity, excellence, innovation and the development of industries. He pointed out that the sponsorship of the bank of the award for the fourth time comes from its belief in the need to support scientific research and encourage researchers in Palestinian universities.

Qasem added that the Palestine Islamic Bank allocates 45% of the CSR program budget annually to support both the education and health sectors, with the focus of supporting educational institutions all over the country, especially in Jerusalem, with a vision to its reconstruction and the strengthening of steadfastness of its people.

Prof. Dr. Imad Khatib, president of the Palestine Polytechnic University expressed his delightness for this strategic partnership with Palestine Islamic Bank, he affirmed that this partnership had a great positive impact on researchers and stimulates them for more commitment give back to their community. Adding that this comes within the university’s strategy to provide all ways possible to support scientific research, especially researches that falls in the heart of developing and serving the Palestinian society.

Dr. Murad Abu Sbeih; dean of graduate studies and scientific research pointed to the national value the prize carries and it became a center of attention for many researchers in Palestinian universities, stating that the prize is developed constantly in order to instigate researchers to develop their researches and raise the quality of work, and contribute to publishing these researches in Scientific journals and conferences that have good reputation and high level.

The signature ceremony was also attended by two winning researchers from the previous round of Palestine Islami Award for Scientific Research, the winners are Dr. Islam Hassouneh; assistant professor at the administrative sciences faculty and specializes in business economies , and Dr. Maher Al-Maghalseh assistant professor at the IT and Engineering faculty and specializes in engineering renewable energy.

Dr. Hassouneh explained that he participated in the award for two years with six researchers and achieved an award for the abundance of production in scientific research, he affirmed that all of his researches are published in the best international scientific journals, and started that he focuses in his work on studying the issues that concerns the Palestinian society which also have a social aspect of the work.

As for Dr. Maghalseh, he pointed that he won the prize for his applied research on the bad conditions of renewable energy in Palestine, especially in the light of full control of the occupation state that stands in between Palestinians and obtaining energy in general, he asserted that these studies in case it got the chance to be applied on the ground, will have a tremendous positive impact and will present a point of reference for decision makers since our use of such renewable energy resources will create a sense of independence.

It is worth mentioning that Palestine Islamic Bank Award is being launched for the fourth time and this year will be awarded in six categories, three of which are available for participation by all researchers in Palestinian universities, which is the excellence award in scientific publishing on national level, and the best applied research on the national level, while the other three categories will be granted exclusively to researchers from the Polytechnic University of Palestine, which are; the prize for scientific research at the level of PUP and the award of research groups at the level of PUP and the Excellence Award for Excellence in Research for Graduates Project Managers at the PUP.
