United Nations Global Compact
United Nations Global Compact
In 2019, the Palestine Islamic Bank (PIB) joined the United Nations Global Compact; a culmination of its adoption of accountable, sustainable and globally-agreed policies in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption. Additionally, the Bank adheres to the Ten Principles of the Charter in all its operations, and adopts a social responsibility program aimed at achieving a positive and sustainable impact through its support of various sectors, especially vital sectors - such as health and education. PIB has adopted environmentally-friendly policies, and uses clean energy wherever possible, while hoping to increase this usage whenever possible.
The Ten Principles :
Human Rights
- Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights.
- Businesses should make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.
Labor
- Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining.
- Businesses should eliminate all forms of forced and compulsory labor.
- Businesses should effectively abolish child labor.
- Businesses should eliminate discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
Environment
- Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges.
- Businesses should undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility.
- Businesses should encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.
Anti-Corruption
- Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
