United Nations Global Compact

In 2019, Palestine Islamic Bank joined the United Nations Global Compact; a culmination of its adoption of accountable, sustainable and globally agreed policies in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption. Additionally, the Bank adheres to the ten principles of the Charter in all its operations, and adopts a social responsibility program aimed at achieving a positive and sustainable impact through its support of various sectors, especially vital sectors such as health and education. PIB has adopted environmentally friendly policies, and uses clean energy wherever possible and hopes to increase this usage whenever possible.

The Ten Principles :

Human Rights

  • Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights.
  • Businesses should make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.

Labor

  •  Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining.
  • Businesses should eliminate all forms of forced and compulsory labor.
  • Businesses should effectively abolish child labor.
  •  Businesses should eliminate discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

Environment

  • Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges.
  • Businesses should undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility.
  • Businesses should encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

Anti-Corruption

  • Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
